Early Life
Andrea Bocelli was born on 22nd September, 1958 in Lajatico, Italy. After his mother refused to listen to doctors’ advice to abort him as a baby on the grounds that he would be born with a disability, Bocelli was born with congenital glaucoma.
At a very tender age, his love for music became evident. Bocelli learnt how to play a number of musical instruments; the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar as well as drums. The most fascinating gift in his toolbox was his own voice.
He listened to famous opera singers as a young boy partly fueling his dream. Bocelli lost his sight in his teens whilst playing soccer. The unfortunate incidence did not stop him from pursuing his interest. His love for singing became even more.
After finishing his secondary education, he went to the University of Pisa to study law. He performed at piano bars whilst in school. It was during one of such days that he met his future wife, Enrica Cenzatti.
Career
His collaboration with Zuchero and the famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti for “Misere“ shot him into public spectacle in 1992. Bocelli received a major surprise when his work on the demo track caught the attention of Pavarotti who insisted vehemently that Bocelli take center stage rather. The agreement was reached for Pavarotti and Bocelli to sing together. The song, “Misere” became an instant hit upon release.
Between 1993 and 1994, Bocelli won several song contest across Italy. Bocelli released his first album in 1994 immediately hitting platinum. The talented singer collaborated with a number of singers to release albums that made inroads across the globe. “Time to Say Goodbye” was rated platinum six times.
In 1998, Bocelli travelled to the USA to perform for the first time. He was personally received by President Clinton. He went on to explore Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Vancouver and others. He collaborated with Celine Dion for the single “The Prayer”.
In 2006, he performed at both the Torino Olympics as well as teh 2006 FIFA World Cup. Bocelli went on to perform at the final of UEFA Champions League. His contribution to the entertainment industry was honored with a star on the Hollywood walk of fame in 2010. He performed at the FIFA World Cup as well as the Expo in Shanghai in 2010.

Andrea Bocelli was married to Enrica Cenzatti until 2002. The couple had two children together. He met Veronica Berti his second wife that same year. Veronica doubles as his manager. The lovers had a daughter in 2012 before sealing their love with marriage in 2014.
