Anthony Mackie was born on September 23, 1978 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His parents are Martha Gordon and Willie Mackie Sr. His brother, Calvin Mackie is a former associate professor of engineering at Tulane University.
Mackie attended Warren Easton Sr. High School. In 2001, he graduated from Julliard. Whilst at Julliard, he played the role “Tupac Shakur” in “Up Against the Wind”
Career
Mackie began his acting career by playing “Don Cheadle” in the Off-Broadway production, “Topdog/Underdog”. His role in the play, “Talk” won him an OBIE Award. 2002 saw Mackie feature in “8 mile”. He played the antagonist role, “Papa Doc”. His major role in a film came in 2003’s indie flick “Brother to Brother”. Mackie played the role of a struggling gay black man by the name Perry. The subsequent year saw him appear in the Oscar Best Picture Winner “Million Dollar Baby”.
The actors featured in, “We Are Marshall,” “Half Nelson,” and “Crossover” in 2006 after having starred in Spike Lee’s “She Hate Me” that same year. The prominent actor featured in three August Wilson plays, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, “Fences”, and “Jitney” in 2008. In 2014, Mackie got married to his long-time lover Sheletta Chapital at the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Canta, Dominican Republic. The lovers had been together since age seven. Mackie and Sheletta have four sons. In 2018, the long-time lovers sadly divorced.
