Brown was born to drianne Moss and “Touchdown” Eddie Brown, a former Arena Football League player who was voted the league’s best player in 2006. For the Albany Firebirds and Louisiana Tech, his father also competed in football as a wide receiver. In high school, Brown played football at Miami Norland. He was a two-time Class 6A all-state pick and the 2005 Miami-Dade Gridiron Classic’s North Athlete of the Year. His admission to Florida State University was rejected after he graduated from high school due to scholastic grounds. He chose to enroll at North Carolina Tech Prep after failing to get into Alcorn State.
He played quarterback for just five games, but during those five games, he passed for 1,247 yards and 11 scores and ran for 451 yards and 13 more. He was given a scholarship to play at Florida International University after completing his lone season there, but he was expelled before the season because of a fight with security. He was a student at Central Michigan University from 2007 to 2009, where he played collegiate football for the Central Michigan Chippewas.
He had six scores, 1,003 yards, and 102 receptions during his rookie season. He made 93 receptions for 998 yards and seven scores during his sophomore season. He had a single-season high of 110 receptions, 1,198 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns by the time he completed his junior year in 2009. Brown had a season-high 13 receptions for 178 yards in the 44-41 victory in his final collegiate contest in January 2010. He made the decision to forego his senior year and declare for the 2010 NFL Draft on January 7, 2010.

Brown was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 195th overall selection in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was given a three-year, $1.28 million deal by the Steelers in June 2010, along with a $73,075 signing bonus. He played in his first Professional game in September against the Tennessee Titans, returning two kickoffs and a punt for a total of 128 yards, including an 89-yard touchdown on the opening play of the game. Brown inked a five-year, $42.5 million extension with the Steelers in July 2012, which also included a $8.5 million signing bonus. He was one of the Steelers’ primary wide receivers heading into the 2013 regular season. With 110 receptions for 1,499 yards and eight scores, he had a successful season.
He was chosen for the Pro Bowl as a receiver and a punt returner in December 2013. He extended his five-year deal with the Steelers through the 2021 season in February 2017. He became the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL thanks to the four-year extension deal, which was worth $68 million and had a $17 million annual pay. Brown was transferred to the Oakland Raiders in March 2019, but on September 7, 2019, he was let go. He signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots on the same day he was released by the Oakland Raiders, valued up to $15 million with a $9 million signing bonus.
