Bill Cosby is an American actor, comedian, author and musician from Philadelphia. Bill is worth approximately $400 million as of January 2023. He began his career in the entertainment industry during the 1960s during which time he performed stand up comedy in San Francisco. Bill’s first sitcom show aired on television in 1969.
His image and reputation got soiled recently with several allegations of rape, sexual assault, abuse and misconduct with over 60 women leveling accusations against Cosby. In April 2018, Cosby was actually convicted of sexual assault.
Early Life
Bill Cosby was born on July 12, 1937 in Philadelphia, U.S.A. He was born to Anna Pearl and William Henry Cosby Sr. Cosby attended Germantown High School dropping out of tenth grade. Bill was the class president at Mary Channing Wister Public School in Philadelphia. He was jokingly referred to as the clown of the his class.
Bill worked in physical therapy with navy and Marine corps who had been injured during the Korean War. Bill after earning his diploma went to the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he studied for a doctorate in education. Before, he worked as a bar tender making big tips for making laugh.
Career
Prior to the commencement of The Cosby Show, he went after a number of television projects. He hosted regularly The Tonight Show as well as star on an annual special for NBC. Cosby starred in the show for two seasons after playing initially the role of a P.E. teacher at a Los Angeles high school.
The animated Saturday morning cartoon, “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids” was created, hosted and produced by Bill Cosby from 1972 to 1979. The cartoon was made after Bill’s own childhood experiences. It was a major success!
One of the most successful and famous sitcoms of all time “The Cosby Show” was launched in the 1980s. Plots in the show were usually based on Bill’s actual family life. The show ran from September 1984 to 1992.
Personal Life
Cosby got married to Camille his wife in 1964, the couple have five children together. His son Ennis was killed in an attempted robbery while his daughter Ensa died of renal disease. Cosby’s attorney went public about his blindness in 2016.
