Brendan Peter Schaub was born on March 18, 1983 in Aurora, Colorado. His parents are Debra and Peter Schaub. Brendan’s mother was English and his father, a second-degree black belt in taekwondo. He attended Overland High School.

Brendan was transferred to the University of Colorado before his junior year to play football full time. He was undrafted in the 2006 NFL Draft, he was later picked by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted rookie free agent. At Buffalo Bills, he got on their practice squad for a short period. Brendan signed with the AFL’s Utah Blaze but was released without making the roster. Brenda retired form the sport in 2007.

Brendan returned to Colorado after he had retired from football. He started training in boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Six months into his training, Brendan entered an amateur boxing competition and won the Colorado novice-division Golden Gloves heavyweight title. After he came across UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin, Brendan started a career in MMA. He had his debut in the sport in 2008 against Jay Lester. His career took off with a record 4-0. Brendan won the ring of fire heavyweight title overcoming Bojan Spalevic. He signed with Ultimate Fighting Championship to compete on “The Ultimate Fighter”. He won his first fight in the first round against Demico Rogers via submission. Brendan made it to the heavyweight final- his official UFC debut. He lost to Roy Nelson via KO. In March 2011, he won the knockout of the Night when he defeated Mirko Filipovic. Brendan recorded a loss in his final match to Travis Browne in December 2014. His career record stands at 10-5.

He partnered with Showtime in 2018 and renamed his solo podcast “Below the Belt with Brendan Schaub”.
