Budda Baker was born in Bellevue, Washington, on January 10, 1996. At Bellevue, Washington, Baker attended Bellevue High School. He ran track and played safety and running back in football. He received the Seattle Times High School Athlete of the Year honors as a senior.

In the second round (36th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals drafted Baker.
In order to move up in the second round to select Baker with the 36th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals traded the 45th overall pick from the second round, the 119th overall pick from the fourth round, and the 197th overall pick from the seventh round to the Chicago Bears.
Also, the Chicago Bears gave the Arizona Cardinals their 221st overall pick in the seventh round. He was taken as the fourth safety overall in 2017, along with Sidney Jones and Kevin King, who were all Washington defensive backs.
In the Arizona Cardinals’ 35-23 loss to the Detroit Lions in their season opener, he played his debut regular-season regular-season game. He recorded one tackle.
In response to Tyvon Branch’s ACL tear the previous week, Baker received his first career start on November 19, 2017. In Week 11’s 31-21 loss to the Houston Texans, he made his first career sack, two pass deflections, and a season-high 13 combined tackles (11 solos) in his first career start.
The Cardinals and Baker agreed to a four-year, $59 million contract agreement on August 25, 2020, making Baker the highest-paid safety in NFL history at the time. In Week 1’s 24-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Baker made a team-high 15 tackles, 10 of which were solo.
