Cee Lo Green
Thomas DeCarlo Callaway popularly known as “Cee Lo Green” is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and record producer. He hails from Atlanta. His net worth is estimated at $10 million. His fame started with the hip-hop group Goodie Mob. Before Cee Lo went solo in 2002, the group had released three albums.
His attempt at a solo career did not go as intended, he joined the soul duo Gnarls Barkley four years on. The group’s debut “Crazy” occupied the number one spot on various single charts across the globe.
Early Life
Thomas DeCarlo Burton was born on May 30, 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father’s passing at the tender age of 2 caused him to use his mother’s surname, Callaway. He attended the Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia.
His mother passed sadly after she was paralyzed in a car accident at the age of 16. Together with T-Mo, Khujo and Big Gipp, they formed the band Goodie Mob in 1991. The effect of her mother’s death found expression in a number of his songs including, “Free”, and “Just a Thought”.
Career
The group, Goodie Mob released its maiden album in 1995 which was a success. The albums, “Still Standing” as well as “World Party” got certified Gold. After two failed albums upon leaving the Goodie Mob, Cee Lo Green formed Gnarls Barkley with DJ Danger Mouse.
They released “St. Elsewhere” in 2006 and “The odd couple” in 2008. The duo saw a lot of success with their single, “Crazy” and “Rolling Stone”. Cee Lo Green released “Fuck You” on Youtube in 2010. “Fuck You” received five Grammy nominations with a friendlier rendition, “Forget You” also making major in-roads.
After releasing a couple of albums such as “The Lady Killer”, “Cee Lo’s Magic Moment”, “Heart Blanche”, Cee Lo Green toured with Lionel Ritchie on the music legend’s All the Hits All Night long tour. Cee Lo Green performed at the fundraiser for Barrack Obama in 2012.
Green performed on “Lip Sync Battle” in 2016 taking comedian Russell Peters to the cleanest. He was the “Monster” on “The Masked Singer UK” in 2020.
Personal Life
Cee Lo Green marriage to Christina Johnson ended in 2005. The couple had a son Kingston on 30 September, 2000. Ceelo had sexual battery allegations leveled against him in 2012. Green’s plea of not guilty was to no avail as he was sentenced to 360 hours of community service.
