Baker debated entering the 2018 NFL draft, but in the end he chose to go back to school for his final year. During his final year of college football, he was among the top defensive backs. He was one of only five draft-eligible cornerbacks with at least 300 coverage plays who held opposing receivers to 175 yards and a 40.2 NFL passer rating in 2018. The Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back in college football, was given to him. He was also named a unanimous 2018 All-American. One of the top defensive back candidates for the upcoming NFL Draft was Baker. At number 30 overall in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Giants chose him. Along with Quinton Dunbar of the Seattle Seahawks, Baker was the subject of an arrest order in May 2020 on suspicion of aggravated assault with a firearm and armed robbery.
