Dez Bryant Early Life

Bryant was born to a 13-year-old mother, Angela, on November 4, 1988 at Galveston Island, Texas, in the United States. He played high school football for the Panthers squad while attending Lufkin High School. He hauled in 48 catches for 1,025 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. After graduating from high school, he played football for the Mike Gundy-coached Oklahoma State Cowboys while attending Oklahoma State University from 2007 to 2009. He finished second on the team as a freshman in 2007 with 43 receptions for 622 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns over the course of 12 games.

His final stats for the 2008 year included two punt return touchdowns in addition to 87 receptions for 1,480 receiving yards and 19 receiving touchdowns. On October 7 for breaking an NCAA rule, he was declared ineligible for the remainder of the 2009 season. He had a total of 323 receiving yards in three games, four receiving touchdowns, and a punt return touchdown. He declared his plan to declare for the NFL Draft in 2010 in November 2009.

Dez Bryant Career

The Dallas Cowboys selected Bryant with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. On July 22, 2010, the Cowboys agreed to sign him to a five-year, $12.05 million contract with an approximate $8.4 million guarantee. He had 45 receptions for 561 yards and six receiving touchdowns by the time his first season was up. Since Kevin Williams in 1993, he became the first Cowboys rookie with two punt returns for touchdowns in a single season. He was selected for the 2010 NFL All-Rookie Team.

He was second on the team in all five categories in 2011 with 63 receptions for 928 yards and nine touchdowns. He also handled some punt return responsibilities. Bryant had 92 receptions for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns by the end of the 2012 season, which placed him 10th, sixth, and third among all receivers in those categories. He started all 16 games and concluded the season with 93 catches, 13 touchdowns, 1,233 receiving yards, and seven consecutive games with at least a touchdown reception, tying the franchise record. The nonexclusive franchise tag, worth $12.823 million, was applied to him by the Cowboys in March 2015.

Bryant and the Cowboys came to terms on a five-year, $70 million deal in July 2015, which includes $45 million in guaranteed compensation and a $20 million signing bonus. On April 13, 2018, the Cowboys released him after eight seasons. Bryant and the New Orleans Saints reached an agreement on a one-year, $1.25 million contract in November 2018, nine weeks into the 2018 campaign. He was added to the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad in October 2020. On November 7 and November 21, he was added to the active roster in preparation for the team’s games in weeks 9 and 10. He had six receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns by the time the regular season of 2020 came to an end.
