E-40 is an American rapper, entrepreneur and investor. He had a net worth of about $8 million as of this writing. He started his career as an underground artist. His album “In a Major Way” set him up for fame and exposure. E-40 went on to achieve more success with his single “Tell Me When to Go” in 2006. He is the founding member of the rap group, The Click.

E-40 Early Life
E-40 was born Earl Tywone Stevens Sr. on November 15, 1967 in Vallejo, California. He was brought up together with his siblings- Tanina and Dannel by a divorced mother. His mother did multiple jobs to make ends meet. After he heard “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang, he instantly grew interested in hip hop music. He started honing his skill in high school wher he played the bass and snare drums. E-40 later on attended James J. Hogan High School -where he played baseball. During his days in school, Stevens and his siblings interestingly recorded and sold their own music. After he graduated in 1985, Stevens relocated to Louisiana. He attended Grambling State University for a year. He made his rap debut using the name E-40. Stevens performed in a group known as Most Valuable Players with his sister, Suga T, his brother D-Shot and his cousin B-Legit. They played at a Grambling State talent show and later released the single “The King’s Men”.

E-40 The Click
After their early shot at success, Most Valuable Player was renamed “The Click”. The group released an Ep in 1990 dubbed “Let’s Slide” through E-40’s independent label Stick Wid It Records. Tho years on, the group released the album “Down and Dirty” which peaked at number 87 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. The group had a mainstream hit with “Captain Save a Hoe” in 1993. IN 1995, it recorded its most successful album yet with “Game Related”. It made it to number three spot on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as well as number 21 on the Billboard 200. The year 2001 saw the group record very little success with “Money & Muscle” – the final album before the group was disbanded in 2018.

E-40 Solo Career
He started his career with local following in his native Bay Arena. Stevens released his debut album “Federal” in 1993. He became one of the very first rappers on the West Coast to enter a deal with a major label with Jive Records in 1994. His second album “In a Major Way” was released in 1995. Stevens featured guest appearances by 2Pac, Spice 1, Mac Mall and members of The Click. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as well as number 13 on the Billboard 200. Did E-40 go platinum? Yes he did.

He married Tracey in 1999. They live in Danville, California. The couple have two children together.
