Early Life
On February 29, 1992, Kendricks was born to Yvonne Thagon and Marvin Kendricks, a former running back in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He has a younger sister named Danielle and an elder brother named Mychal. Their father, Marvin, who developed a crack cocaine addiction, left them with their single mother, Thagon, to raise them. Career
Kendricks began playing amateur football while he was a student at Herbert Hoover High School in Fresno, California. Rivals.com gave him a three-star rating and ranked him No. 92 overall among all athletes in the state of California as well as No. 60 among outside linebackers. Kendricks committed to playing college football at the University of California, Los Angeles in November 2009. (UCLA). After graduating from high school, he played for the UCLA Bruins from 2010 to 2014. He didn’t play in 2010 and redshirted that year, but he did take part in 14 games with three starts in 2011. He finished the year second on the team in tackles with 76 overall. He finished second and tied for fourth with 4.5 tackles for loss.
For the third consecutive year, Kendricks started as a starter when he entered his senior year in 2014. He topped the Football Bowl Subdivision with 149 solo tackles. He surpassed Jerry Robinson’s prior record of 468 tackles for UCLA with his 481 career stops. In the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected Kendricks with the 45th overall pick, and he began his career as a professional football player that year. In the same year, he agreed to a four-year, $5.15 million deal with the Vikings, which included a $2 million signing bonus and $2.67 million in guaranteed compensation. He participated in his first professional regular-season game against the Minnesota Vikings in the season opener, and he made his first career start against the Denver Broncos in a game in October.
In 2017, he participated in all 16 of his games from the start and recorded a career-high 113 tackles. In April 2018, he agreed to a five-year, $50 million extension to his contract with the Vikings, with a $25 million guarantee. He started 14 out of the games played.
