George Foreman Early Life
George Foreman was born on January 10, 1949 in Marshall, Texas. He was brought up in Houston with six siblings. His biological father was Leroy Moorehead but he was raised by J.D. Foreman. George recounts a very difficult and troubled youth. He dropped out of school and took to attacking and robbing people at the age of 15.
George wanted to salvage what was left of his young life when he begged his mother to sign him up for Job Corps a year later. He wanted to use the job corps to get his GED. He trained as a carpenter and bricklayer. He had his first boxing exposure when he relocated to Pleasanton, California to train for boxing.

Foreman announced his presence in the ring triumphantly winning a gold medal in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games in the heavyweight division. He shockingly beat Jonas Cepulis, a veteran who was more than 10 years older than him with 12 years experience.
He recounts the joy he had upon winning the gold medal saying the gold medal was the achievement he was most prod of in his entire career. He made the transition into a pro in 1969 winning 13 fights that calendar year with 11 of them being total knockouts.
He did a clean sweep in 1970 winning all 12 of his bouts. His winning streak continued until he began facing much tougher opposition in Ken Norton and Muhammad Ali in 1974. His fight with Muhammad Ali was dubbed “Rumble in the Jungle”, Foreman made a trip to Zaire prior to the bout. Ali became the first boxer to knock Foreman down.
After a couple of unsuccessful attempts at victory, Foreman retired in 1977 following a very humiliating and humbling loss to Jimmy Young.
