Early Life
Gordon James Ramsay Jr. was born on November 8, 1966 in Renfrewshire, Scotland. His parents are Gordon and Helen Cosgrove. He was brought up from the age of 5 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England.
Gordon from an early age had to grapple with neglect and abuse meted by his father who was a heavy drinker and womanizer. His passion for football got him selected for under 14 football at the age of 12.
Career
Gordon’s interest in pursuing a culinary career at the age of 19. He took jobs at the Wrexton House Hotel as well as the Wickham Arms. After working for about three years for Marco Pierre White at Harvey’s, Ramsay decided to learn French Cuisine.
He took employment at Le Gavroche in Mayfair. He tapped a lot from mentor Guy Savoy for the three years he worked in France. He took the job of a personal chef on the private yacht, Idlewild based in Bermuda.
Gordon was offered the job of head chef as well as a 10% share in the Rossmore upon his return to London. This was the necessary precursor to the establish of restaurants in Glasgow, Ireland, Dubai, Tokyo, New York City, Florida and Los Angeles. He featured in television series such as Faking It, helping the prospective chef, learn the trade, etc.
Gordon was producer cum judge on the US version of MasterChef as well as host Ramsay’s best Restaurant. He authored 21 books, and wrote articles to The Times Saturday Magazine.
Personal Life
Gordon got married to Cayetana Elizabeth Hutcheson in 1996. The couple have five children; Megan, Holly, Jack, Tilly and Oscar. He owns three houses in Cornwall estimated at about £11 million.
