Greg Oden Early Life
Greg Orden was born on January 22, 1988 in Buffalo, New York. At the age of nine, his family relocated to Terra haute, Indiana. he attended Sarah Scott Middle School. Greg later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana with his mother and brother. He played basketball for the Lawrence North High School team. Greg inspired his high school team to three consecutive Indiana Class 4A basketball championships. Greg was named the National Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. Greg went to Ohio State University for the 2006/07 season. He missed the first part of the season to injuries. Greg had his college debut in December 2, 2006. He finished the game with 14 points, ten rebounds and five blocks. He was described by sports broadcaster, Steve Kerr as “once-in-a-decade player”. Greg’s third season did not witness much success- he played only 21 out of 82 games. The Trail Blazers announced that he would miss out on the entire 2010-2011 season to undergo a microfracture surgery on his left knee- the fourth season he had failed to play a full season. He grappled with set-back with his recovery during 2011 and 2012. Greg underwent more surgeries than was initially contemplated. Greg was released by the Portland in 2012 to make space for trade acquisitions. Greg announced that he was not playing in the 2012/13 season so he could focus on rehabilitation. Greg signed with the Miami Heat the following year and made the much-expected return to the game. He started in 23 games that season. The Heat went straight into the final and lost to the San Antonio Spurs. He spent the next two years to regain his shape and made a comeback to the NBA which never materialized. Greg signed a one-year, $1.2 million contact with the Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association on 26th August, 2015. He left the team half-way into the season.
