Jeffery Chidera Okudah, also known as Jeff Okudah, plays cornerback for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). 2020 marked the start of Okudah’s NFL professional tenure.
Jeff Okudah NFL Early Life
Okudah was born on February 2, 1999, to Sam and Marie Okudah in Parsippany, New Jersey, in the United States. In 2017, cancer took his mother’s life. Karen, his sibling, is a sports enthusiast as well. He played high school football there and went to South Grand Prairie High School, which is where he was raised. He averaged more than 24 yards per catch as a receiver in 2015, and the Associated Press named him to the second squad of the Class 6A all-state team as a senior. In addition, he made 46 stops and four pass breakups. 2016 saw South Grand Prairie advance to the Texas class 6A state playoffs with the aid of 43 tackles, five pass breakups, and 795 total offensive yards.

He made his Ohio State University commitment in January 2017 and was a five-star prospect fresh out of high school. From 2017 to 2019, he played football for the Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio State. He participated in each of the 14 contests as a true rookie, making 17 tackles. In 13 games as a sophomore in 2018, he made 32 stops. He made his first career interception against the Miami Redhawks as a junior in 2019, and he also had 34 stops, 9 passes defensed, and 3 interceptions. He was selected as a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and unanimously selected to the 2019 College Football All-America Team for his achievement that season.

When Okudah chose to enter the 2020 NFL Draft, he decided against finishing his senior year. In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions chose him third overall as their third-round pick, making him the best cornerback prospect. In July 2020, the club and he agreed to a four-year rookie contract. A $21.944 million signing bonus is included in the contract’s completely guaranteed $33.528 million value. The first contest of the season was lost because of a hamstring injury he sustained during training camp.
With the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, he made a comeback and gave up six completions for 96 yards. He intercepted a pass from Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray the following week, marking the first interception of his career. After undergoing surgery in December 2020 to treat a core muscle injury, he was put on injured reserve. Okudah suffered an Achilles tendon rupture and was once more put on injured reserve during the Lions’ 2021 season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. He is currently unmarried and is not engaged either. He also has no children of his own yet.
