Keanu Neal plays safety in American football for the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the 2016 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons selected him with the 17th overall pick. At Florida, he played collegiate football.

Keanu Neal NFL Early Life

Neal was born in Webster, Florida, on July 26, 1995. In Bushnell, Florida, Neal studied at South Sumter High School.

He was moved from linebacker to safety after starting out as a linebacker. He recorded 151 tackles as a junior in addition to four interceptions, one of which he returned 20 yards for a touchdown, four forced fumbles, five pass deflections, four forced fumbles, one offensive touchdown as a goal-line fullback, four forced fumbles, and four forced fumbles.

He was recognized as All-Conference and All-State. He had more than 70 tackles and four interceptions as a senior. He made a commitment to play collegiate football for the University of Florida and head coach Will Muschamp.

In the first round (17th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft, Neal was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. After West Virginia’s Karl Joseph, he was chosen as the second safety in 2016. (12th overall). Neal signed a four-year, $10.73 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons on May 4, 2016, which came with a $6 million signing bonus and was fully guaranteed.

In the Atlanta Falcons Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints, he made his first career start and made his first regular-season start as a professional. He finished with four total tackles and a pass deflection as part of their 45-32 triumph.

On the Saints’ opening offensive play, he made his first career tackle by tackling running back Mark Ingram II after gaining three yards.

Neal and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who was Neal’s head coach with the Falcons, reunited when Neal signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys on April 14, 2021. At scheduled team events in May, he was moved to weakside linebacker.

Neal returned to strong safety after signing a one-year, $1.272 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on April 6, 2022.
