Malik Hooker plays American football professionally as safety for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He has been active in the NFL since 2017.

Malik Hooker NFL Early Life

As the son of Jermaine Hooker and Angela Dennis, Hooker was born on April 2, 1996, in Pennsylvania, the United States. Marcus Hooker, an NFL player, is among his four siblings. Jazelle Dennis, Delvonna Dennis, and Marquel Hooker make up the other three siblings. During his two years of football as a cornerback and wide receiver at New Castle High School, he also participated in basketball. He won the title of male athlete of the year from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a senior.

At Ohio State University, he participated in college football for the Buckeyes. After redshirting in 2014, he played in all 13 games the following year, recording 10 tackles while primarily playing on special teams. In 2016, he took over at free safety as a redshirt sophomore. He had his first two career interceptions during the season’s opening game. Hooker received the first-team All-Big Ten honor in November 2016. After the season, he made the decision to forego the final two years of eligibility and sign with the NFL instead.

With the 15th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Hooker in the first round. He signed a four-year, $12.59 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts in May 2017, which came with a $2.29 million signing bonus and was fully guaranteed. In seven games and six starts, he recorded 22 combined tackles (16 solo), four pass deflections, and three interceptions by the time his rookie season came to a close. He had 41 tackles, three pass deflections, two interceptions, and one recovered fumble by season’s end in 2018.

He picked off Philip Rivers in the end zone during the 2019 season’s opening game against the Los Angeles Chargers and returned it 26 yards in a 30-24 overtime loss. He became a free agency in 2021 after the Colts turned down his contract’s fifth-year option in May 2020. He tore his Achilles in September 2020, during the Colts’ victory over the Minnesota Vikings, ending his 2020 campaign. Two days later, he was put on injured reserve. He joined the Dallas Cowboys in July 2021 and appeared in 15 games, making 44 tackles and one interception. He agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Cowboys in March 2022. Hooker is not in a relationship with anyone currently. He is not married and has never been married.
