Marcus Cannon plays offensive lineman for the National Football League’s (NFL) New England Patriots. He was the second-heaviest player in franchise history, after nose tackle Ted Washington, who played for the Patriots in the 2003 season, when he was initially drafted into the NFL in 2011. He was also the heaviest player ever selected by the Patriots.

Cannon was born in New Mexico on May 6, 1988, however she spent her formative years in Odessa, also in the USA. Ebbie Marcus and Holly Cannon are his parents. He was a student at Odessa High. He attended Texas Christian University after high school and played collegiate football there. He started his first three seasons at right tackle before going to left tackle his final year to defend Andy Dalton’s blind side. He didn’t allow a single sack in 2009, and in 2010, he was a part of an offensive line that allowed just nine sacks entire season. He earned a communications degree from TCU.

Cannon was selected by the New England Patriots with the 138th selection in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. During the Patriots’ 18 regular-season and postseason games in 2012, he participated in all 18 and made one start. He started left guard for the Patriots at the start of the 2014 campaign. Cannon agreed to a two-year agreement in December 2014 for up to $9 million, which included a $3.2 million signing bonus. He extended his deal with the Patriots for an additional five years and $32.5 million in 2016, through the year 2021. He was selected as a second-team All-Pro by Pro Football Focus and The Associated Press for his play during the 2016 campaign. Cannon was a member of the Patriots squad that won Super Bowl LI in February 2017.
Prior to suffering an ankle injury in Week 8, he started seven games as the Patriots’ starting right tackle in 2017. Before being put on injured reserve, he missed the following five games. He declared his intention to skip the season in July 2020 owing to worries about the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. He was dealt to the Houston Texans in March 2021. He was selected as the Texans’ 2021 starting right tackle. He was released by the Texans in March 2022. He was added to the New England Patriots practice squad in September 2022. On October 5, he was elevated to the active roster. Right tackle, he made two starts for the team before being put on injured reserve on November 5, 2022.
