On March 9, 1993, Maye was born in Florida and raised there. He played high school football as an amateur at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, where he was a student. At the University of Florida, he continued to play college football for the Florida Gators. His true freshman year in 2012 was redshirted. He participated in 8 games as a freshman in 2013 and recorded 16 tackles along with an interception.
He has 62 tackles, 5 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception in 11 games as a sophomore in 2014. In the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Maye with the 39th overall pick. In May of the same year, he agreed to a four-year, $6.55 million deal with the New York Jets, which included a $2.90 million signing bonus and a guarantee of $3.66 million. He started and made his first career start in the New York Jets’ regular-season opener against the Buffalo Bills, finishing with a total of seven tackles. He missed the first three games of the season because of a foot ailment, but he returned to action in Week 4 as the Jets’ starting free safety.

In Week 1 of the 2020 season, he recorded a team-high 10 tackles, two sacks, two quarterback hits, two tackles for loss, two passes defensed, and one forced fumble. In Week 6’s contest against the Miami Dolphins, he made his first interception of the year. On March 9, 2021, the Jets placed the franchise tag on Maye, and on March 22, 2021, he agreed to the one-year tender. Maye was placed on injured reserve in November 2021 after suffering an Achilles injury in Week 9.
The New Orleans Saints inked Maye to a three-year, $28.5 million deal on March 16, 2022. He was taken into custody on September 1, 2022, and was later checked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Louisiana for aggravated assault with a firearm. He posted a $30,000 bond and was let out of jail. Maye is single, and it’s unclear if he’s dating anyone right now.
