Mark Ingram Sr. And Shonda Ingram, both Americans, gave birth to Ingram II on December 21, 1989 in New Jersey. For the New York Giants, his father was a wide receiver prodigy who starred for them. Following three years at Grand Blanc Community High School for his first, second, and third years of high school, Ingram II attended Flint Southwestern Academy for his final year. In his final two seasons, he ran for 2,546 yards and 38 touchdowns, capping a four-year starting career for the football teams at his secondary schools. In order to attend the University of Alabama, he was given an athletic grant. From 2008 to 2010, he played football for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He racked up 728 yards and 12 scores on the ground as a rookie. He rushed for 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns in his junior season, and he also added 334 receiving yards and three additional scores. In the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected Ingram with the 28th overall pick. Later, he and the Saints reached an agreement on a four-year contract with a fifth-year option and three guaranteed years. The total contract worth of $7.41 million included a $3.89 million signing bonus. By the time his debut season was over, he had 474 rushing yards and five touchdowns. In total, he rushed for 602 yards and scored five times in 2012. He finished the 2013 season having gained 386 yards through the air and one score on the ground.
With 1,109 yards from scrimmage at the end of the 2014 NFL season, he set a career best. In March 2015, Ingram and the Saints agreed to a four-year, $16 million deal. He signed a three-year, $15 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens in March 2019. In March, he signed a $2.5 million contract with the Houston Texans, which included a $500,000 signing bonus.
