Markus Golden Early Life

Golden, the son of Markus Eberhart and Rhonda Golden, was born on March 13, 1991 in St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States. Sherman Golden is his brother’s name. He attended Affton High School, where he played running back and linebacker, and completed his high school education there. In his junior year, he ran for 1,139 yards and 16 touchdowns in addition to setting a school record with 168 tackles and 16 sacks. He ran for 2,264 yards, 30 touchdowns, 108 tackles, and 10 sacks as a senior while also setting a record. He attended Hutchinson Community College as a freshman after graduating from high school and had 90 tackles there, including 26 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks along with five forced turnovers.

He spent a year at Hutchinson before transferring to the University of Missouri, where he played for the Tigers for the remainder of his undergraduate career. Due to clearinghouse complications, he was forced to join Missouri’s team late, but he was still able to make a significant contribution, playing in all 12 games (mainly on special teams), making 10 tackles, and ultimately forcing one fumble. He also contributed significantly to numerous special teams groups.

Golden was chosen by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft (58th overall). He signed a four-year, $3.91 million contract with the Cardinals in May 2015, with $1.72 million guaranteed and a $1.10 million signing bonus. Against the New Orleans Saints in the Arizona Cardinals’ season opener, he made his first regular-season professional tackle with three total stops. In 15 games and six starts, he concluded his debut season with 31 total tackles, four sacks, and two forced fumbles. In four games and four starts in 2017, he concluded the season with 11 solo tackles. With an 8-8 record, the Arizona Cardinals took third place in the NFC West.

He made 30 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2018, playing in 11 of them as a starter. He agreed to a $3,750,000 contract for a year with the New York Giants in March 2019. The Giants gave him the unrestricted free agency tender in April 2020. The one-year tender was signed by him on August 4, 2020. He went back to the Arizona Cardinals in October 2020 after being dealt by the Giants. In Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins, he made his Cardinals debut. He agreed to a two-year deal with the Cardinals in March 2021. He agreed to a one-year contract deal with the Cardinals in September 2022. The 10th of March 2023 saw his release.
