Becton was born to Semone and Jerome Becton on April 18, 1999 in Highland Springs, Virginia, in the United States. Michael and Mason Becton are his two siblings. He graduated from Highland Springs High School and was a three-star recruit, coming in at No. 405 overall and No. 43 offensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite. On February 1, 2017, National Signing Day, he had chosen just five colleges out of the 31 that had recruited him to play college football. On signing day, he selected Louisville over Virginia despite Virginia’s intense recruiting efforts. He participated in the Louisville Cardinals football squad while attending the University of Louisville.

He participated in 13 games and made 11 starts for the Cardinals during his rookie season in 2017. Becton received the best freshman rating in the nation from Pro Football Focus for the first four games of the season. By the conclusion of the 2018 season, he had started all 23 of the games he had been selected to start as a starting tackle. For the 2019 season, he was once more designated a starting tackle. Following the end of the regular season, he was named to the All-ACC first team. He elected to forego his senior year, skip Louisville’s playoff game, and declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.
