Ronde Barber, real name Jamael Orondé Barber, happens to be a former cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League for his entire 16-year professional career (NFL).
Ronde Barber NFL – Early Life
Barber was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on April 7, 1975, to Geraldine Barber and Daniel X. Brack. He has a twin brother, Tiki Barber, who was a running back for the New York Giants in the past. The older brother of Barber and Tiki is Tarik Barber. 1993 saw Barber graduate from Cave Spring High School. He received a sports scholarship to the University of Virginia after high school, where he participated in the Virginia Cavaliers’ collegiate football team.
After sitting out 1993, he played with the Cavaliers from 1994 through 1996. He was a member of the Virginia teams that won the Peach Bowl in December 1995 and the Independence Bowl in 1994.He declared for the 1997 NFL Draft following his junior year in 1996. With a focus on marketing, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Virginia in 1997. Barber participated in the IMP Society while he was a student at the University, one of the school’s covert organizations.

Ronde Barber NFL – Career
As the 66th overall pick in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Barber. He made three tackles in his lone game as a rookie, which was against the Arizona Cardinals. He started nine games, participated in all 16 games, and had 68 tackles, 17 passes deflected, three sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and twelve special teams tackles in his second season. He started every one of the 16 games in a season in 2000 for the first time in his career.
97 tackles, 20 deflected passes, and 5.5 sacks were all new career highs for him. He was the defensive back with the most sacks among the NFC with 5.5. Barber signed a $6.50 million, six-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in April 2001. He converted to free safety in May 2012, per official position change. For the 13th consecutive season, Barber started all 16 games. He finished that year with 91 tackles, 13 passes defended, 4 interceptions returned for 160 yards, and a forced fumble.
Barber made his retirement official in May 2013. He was currently ranked first in defensive touchdowns scored at the time of his retirement. Barber is married to Claudia Patron, a Filipino American who used to work in marketing and event planning but is currently employed at Diabetic Charitable Services. Justyce Rosina and Yammile Rose are the couple’s two daughters.
