Shelly Long
Shelley Long is a Hollywood actress, singer and comedian from the United States. The Emmy award-winning American actress is remembered fondly for her role as Diane Chambers on the sitcom Cheers. She earned five Emmy nominations. She won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1983. As at 2022, the Hollywood actress has a net worth of $5 million. She made her maiden appearance in the ABC comedy series Modern Family in 2009.
Early Life
Shelley Long was born on 23 August 1949 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her father was Lelang Long and Ivadine who were both teachers although her father had worked earlier in a rubber industry. As a teen, she was a member of the speaking team at South Side High School. Shelley studied theatre at the Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She became a member of Chicago’s Second City comedy company in the 1970s. Shelley won the National Championship in Original Oratory in 1967.
Career
In 1980, Shelly began her film career with a role in the drama film, ‘A Small Circle of Friends’. During that same decade, she appeared in comedies such as “Caveman”, “Night Shift”, “Losin’ It”, “Irreconcilable Differences,” “The Money Pit,” “Outrageous Fortune,” “Hello Again,” and “Troop Beverly Hills. Her work was acknowledged when she received a nomination a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in 1984.
The 1990s saw her appear in numerous comedies such as as “Don’t Tell Her It’s Me”, “Frozen Assets”, “The Brady Bunch Movie” and more.
She played a role in Robert Altman’s “Dr T & the Women”, in the 2000s. She also worked on the following films, “Trust Me,” “Pizza Man,” “Zombie Hamlet,” “Best Man Down,” “A Matter of Time,” and “Different Flowers”. Shelley featured in seven episodes of the TV series, ‘Modern Family’ between 2009 and 2018. She received nomination for the Golden Derby Award and the OFTA TV award. Shelley currently playing a part in the film, ‘Southern Christmas’.
Personal Life
Shelley Long has been married twice all ending in a divorce. She was first married to Ken Solomon which ended after a few years. She got married for the second time to Bruce Tyson who was a securities broker. The couple had a daughter in 1985. Shelley and Bruce Tyson separated in 2003 subsequently divorcing in 2004.
