Takeo Spikes was a linebacker for the National Football League (NFL) in American football. Spikes played for the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and San Diego Chargers in addition to being a two-time Pro Bowl selection and one-time All-Pro.
Takeo Spikes Early Life
Spikes was born in Georgia, a country in the United States, on December 17, 1976. Jimmie Spikes and Lillie Spikes are his parents. He played football in high school at Washington County High School, where he was awarded Georgia’s “Mr. Football” by state coaches as a senior and received All-American accolades from Parade and USA Today. As a senior, he was also recognized as Georgia’s Player of the Year. After high school, he enrolled at Auburn University with a liberal arts major. He tallied 136 tackles during the 1997 campaign, leading Auburn to the SEC Championship game where they lost to Peyton Manning and the Tennessee Volunteers, 30-29. For his performance in this game, he was given the MVP award.

Takeo Spikes Career
The Cincinnati Bengals selected Spikes in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Since James Francis led the Bengals in tackles in 1990, he became the only rookie to do so. His 997 combined offensive and defensive snaps were the most on the club. The Bengals declined to match the Buffalo Bills’ offersheet, which was for $32 million over six years. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2003. He had 126 tackles and added two sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles to his resume. He was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2007. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers in August 2008.
In July 2011, Spikes agreed to a three-year deal with the San Diego Chargers. When he made his 200th career start in September 2012, he joined an extremely small club of linebackers who have accomplished this feat. He was unsigned in 2013 and retired later that year. He graduated from the University of Miami Business School with a Master of Business Administration in 2016. He transitioned into the media after leaving the NFL and now co-hosts SiriusXM NFL shows and the SEC Network in addition to serving as a football analyst on NBC Sports Network. He presently provides NFL commentary for Sky Sports UK. He has a child called Jakai Spikes. He is not married but previously dated singer, Tionne Watkins from 2006 to 2009.
