Xavier McKinney plays safety for the New York Giants of the National Football League and goes by the full name Xavier Alshon McKinney (NFL). He began playing football professionally in 2020.
Early Life
McKinney was born on August 9, 1999, to Lee McKinney and Eboni Merriwether in Roswell, Georgia, in the United States. It is unknown whether he has siblings. He participated in amateur football while attending Roswell High School. He had seven interceptions and 82 tackles as a senior. To play college football, he pledged to the University of Alabama. He participated in collegiate football at the University of Alabama for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
He participated on special teams and as a backup in 13 games as a true freshman in 2017. In 2018, he had 73 tackles as a starter along with two interceptions and three sacks. He received the 2018 Orange Bowl defensive MVP award. McKinney declared he would forego his senior year and instead declare for the 2020 NFL Draft in January 2020.

Career
The 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft went to the New York Giants, who selected McKinney. He suffered a foot fracture, and in September of 2020, was put on injured reserve. November 2020 saw his activation. He recorded his first career interception in a game against the Dallas Cowboys in January 2021, aiding the Giants in defeating the Cowboys 23-19. McKinney picked off two passes in the sixth week of the 2021 season against the Los Angeles Rams.
McKinney was included in the COVID protocol, the Giants revealed in November. As the season came to a close, he intercepted two passes against the Las Vegas Raiders, assisting the Giants in defeating the Raiders. His efforts earned him the title of NFC Defensive Player of the Week. McKinney injured his hand in an ATV accident in Week 9 of the Giants’ 2022 season, which kept him out for a number of weeks. On December 31, 2022, he was activated after being placed on reserve for a non-football injury. McKinney is not married and has never been married. He also has no children.
